Iris McGill

Education Officer: Creative & Performing Arts

Iris’ teaching experience of Dance and Drama has spanned across primary, secondary and tertiary classrooms over the past 29 years. 

As an advocate for the Arts in the curriculum, Iris has lectured at Australian Catholic University (B. Ed) in Primary Dance and Drama and currently at the University of Sydney (B. Ed and M. Teach).

Iris has been a member of writing teams and steering committees for published SCS Dance texts and resources to support primary and secondary teachers in the teaching of Dance in the Classroom. Iris has led professional learning in Early Years Arts Education, HSC Dance, Media Arts and Arts Technologies. Her passion for Dance Education has seen her work closely with the NESA panel to develop course prescriptions for HSC Dance and is a member of Dance Educators Professional Association of NSW (DEPA) and the Cross Sectoral Creative Arts Group. Iris was an invited guest speaker to the National Future Schools 2020.

Iris has been connected with Catholic Schools Performing Arts since its inception in 1999, as part of the Creative Team for Jubilee 2000. Her Directorial and choreographic credits include  the “Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe” at The Seymour Centre, Co-Director of “Entertaining Angels” at Sydney Entertainment Centre, part of the Creative Team for WYD, Sydney 2008 & Co-Director of “Tell Me A Story” 2012 Sydney Catholic Schools as well as numerous Regional Festivals. Iris was a part of the creative team for three international CaSPA Student Performance Tours and more recently is part of the podcast team, developing skills as producer for CaSPA’s podcast series, Spotlight on the Arts.

Iris’ freelance work has included leading Drama workshops for Brats Model Management, leading choreographic workshops for Wakakirri Dance and Drama Eisteddfods and organising massed groups for events with clients including Wallabies, Waratahs, Swans and FIFA pre match entertainment. Other cultural events include working as part of the team for the Sydney Chinese New Year Twilight Parade. Most recently, Iris worked as Ceremonies Manager for the Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi in 2019.
